Extra-Curricular for English
We run a range of theatre trips throughout the year to support students’ study of GCSE English Literature texts – these have so far included live performances of An Inspector Calls, Blood Brothers, Woman in Black, Macbeth and Romeo & Juliet. We also invite theatre companies to perform in school to enhance our students’ understanding of the plays and novels they are studying. Last year and again this year, interactive performances of Macbeth take place in school with our Y9 and Y10 students.
During Activity Week, a host of extra-curricular activities are run by English Department staff including board games, Scene in a Box, Poem in a Box, re-enacting Macbeth battle scenes, Creative Writing Workshops, and Romeo & Juliet Masked Ball Creations.
Each Friday lunch the QE Library Club meet, the club is comprised of students from Years 7-10, where all are wlecome to join and participate in a variety of ways. The club is set up to re-vitalise our Library, promote a love of books and reading across the school, and create an inviting, interactive space in our library for a wide variety of activities and events.
Thanks to the incredible efforts of our members, we hold bake sales in the spring term to raise funds for book purchases, contest prizes , supplies for displays and projects. We always aim to have a Book Quiz for the end of Summer Term, with great prizes for the winners!
If anyone is able to contribute used books, supplies, or comfy furniture for our reading corner, this would be greatly appreciated. Please contact Mr Huntzinger at whuntzinger@queenelizabeth.hereford.sch.uk.
In addition, a whole school inter-house Spelling Bee Competition takes place, again proving very popular.
Reading Buddies on a Friday form time is a great way to help less confident readers who pal up with an older student to provide encouragement and support.
