Pupil Premium
At Queen Elizabeth High School, we are committed to ensuring that every pupil has the opportunity to thrive and achieve their potential.
Our Pupil Premium approach reflects our ethos of Support, Believe, Achieve and our values of Pride, Ambition, Creativity and Empathy (PACE). We recognise that some pupils may face additional barriers to learning, attendance, participation and achievement, and we work closely with pupils, families and staff to provide the right support while maintaining high expectations.
What is Pupil Premium?
Pupil Premium is additional government funding provided to schools to improve educational outcomes for disadvantaged pupils.
Funding is mainly allocated for pupils who:
- Are eligible for Targeted Free School Meals, or have been eligible during the previous six years
- Are looked after by a local authority
- Have previously been looked after and subsequently left care.
Schools also receive Service Pupil Premium for eligible children of members of HM Armed Forces.
From 2026–27, eligibility for free school meals has widened. However, pupils qualifying only through the new Expanded FSM entitlement do not automatically attract Pupil Premium funding.
Our approach at QE
We use evidence, including guidance from the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF), to focus funding in three key areas:
- High-quality teaching – strong classroom practice, adaptive teaching, literacy and staff professional development.
- Targeted academic support – including intervention, mentoring and additional support where pupils need it most.
- Wider strategies – addressing barriers such as attendance, behaviour, wellbeing, aspiration and access to enrichment.
We regularly review pupils' progress, attendance, engagement and participation so that support can be adapted where necessary.
Our ambition is simple: disadvantage should not determine a pupil's experience, opportunities or future outcomes.
Through Support, Believe, Achieve, we aim to ensure that disadvantaged pupils are known well, taught well, supported effectively and encouraged to aim high.

There is also a dedicated mentor in school who will be the first point of contact for parents and pupils. Ms Taylor conducts termly mentor meetings at a minimum and coordinates all pastoral provisions and access to the academic provisions in consultation with the school SLT.
